AWANA BOAT REGATTA
Who?
AWANA Sparks
and T & T Clubbers
What?
This year we have decided to try the Boat Regatta again using only the sailboat
kits. This will be Our Second Ever Rain Gutter Boat Regatta. Clubbers will be
involved in designing and building their own sailboat. The sailboat will be
raced in a rain gutter, and clubbers will compete against each other to see who
can use their own “wind” to move their sailboat down the rain
gutter to the finish line.
When?
Sunday, March 21st, 5:30- 7:30pm.
Where?
Woodlawn Baptist Church Family Life Center
How?
Each clubber must create a sailboat from the kit. You can buy a sailboat making
kit for $5.00 from the AWANA Command Center on any Wednesday night beginning
this week. Be sure to give your boat a name. You may color, decorate, and add
as much pizzazz as you desire.
Awards: Speed Awards – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
Best Design Awards – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
place for both Sparks and T & T

AWANA Clubs
Awana is for children age 3 - 6th grade.
The 2008-09 club year has finished. Children can join anytime during the 09-10 session which begins in September. There is a cost, but scholarship help is available through the church office.
Cubbies is for 3- and 4-year olds
Sparks is for K-2nd graders
Truth & Training is for grades 3-6
At Check-in time Clubbers get points for bringing their book, bringing friends, wearing their uniform, attending Sunday School the previous Sunday, and for bringing a friend. Points are good for AWANA Bucks later. AWANA Bucks are spent at the AWANA Store. PLEASE parents, help your clubbers remember their Bucks on Store Nights.
The club meeting after Opening Ceremonies, is in three parts - Council Time, Handbook Time, and GAME TIME.
All Cubbies do the same book for that year. There are two books and they alternate years. Parent or Guardian of a Cubbie MUST stay on the church premises. Also, Cubbies must be picked up by 7:45.
Sparks has 3 Handbooks: HangGlider, WingRunner (new!) , Climber. Sparks is being updated from Crowns to Wings, one year at a time. T&T has 4 Handbooks.
Each Clubber starts in the first book after an introductory book. The handbooks have memory verses and activities. Mom and dad can help the children learn the verses. At club time, Listeners listen to the verses (2 helps allowed) and check them off in the books. Some of the activities must be done at home. Parents, your participation is essential if the book is to be finished by Awards night.
All clubbers get awards each week for their work: sew-on patches, pin-on wings (or crowns), and jewels in them, for Sparks; and pin-on badges with stickers for T&T. Each clubber has a uniform to wear: blue for Cubbbies, red for Sparks, and green knit shirts for T&T. Leaders wear uniforms too.
AWANA Theme Nights (in green on the calendar) give your clubber a chance to exercise some creativity, and serves as a good time to invite a friend.
During
Activity Nights (in red on the calendar) the normal schedule may not be followed. The Regatta is a boat race, like a pinewood derby, except with boats. Parental involvement (dad, usually!) is a must for this. (AWANA's pinewood derby is called the "Grand Prix" and may resume in fall 2009. )
Sewing nights are scheduled to help with sew-on awards.
At the end of the AWANA year, an Awards Night recognizes all the hard work by the leaders and clubbers, with ribbons or trophies for finishing the books.
