Our activities and programs are for all ages and for many diverse needs of the community and of our membership. This list is not complete. Arts
| Drama From time to time, short dramatic skits are presented in the worship service. Contact Adam Holcomb (or Carletta Morgan) to see about getting involved. Our Spring 2006 musical will need some dramaatic actors.
| Children's Sunday Programs
We are a "Peanut Free Zone" | Children's Church K-2nd Kindergarten through 2nd grade have Children's Church every Sunday morning during "Big Church", including during Early Worship. Parent and Youth or College volunteers assist on a rotating basis.
Infant Bed Babies have a separate nursery room with paid nursery staff. Strict guidelines of hygiene and visitors are followed.
A Security Tag system is used, and there is an electronic call-number visible in the sanctuary so the parent whose child needs attention can be called without disturbing the service.
When parents are off-campus, parents are urged to leave their cellphone numbers, and if the phone is on Silent, to check it regularly.
Toddler Creepers through twos are cared for by as many as four teachers per class. When the class gets too large, another class is formed.
Strict guidelines of hygiene are followed. The numbered tags provide for calling the parents from the sanctuary when needed as well as to release the child only to the parent.
The children have snack time and simple crafts, music and stories. When weather permits, toddlers and twos are taken to the playground for a little outdoor fun.
Teachers of Toddlers are encouraged to attend training opportunities as they arise.
K-6 Children's Sunday School is at 9:30am. 1st - 5th graders meet in the North Building. Kindergartners meet in the Preschool building.
We encourage worship at home with the family. Read Bible stories. Teach about God and Jesus. Sing praise songs. Pray.
Children Kindergarten and up are expected to stay in "Big Church" with their parents. They are old enough to sit quietly, to listen, and even to begin to understand that Jesus died for their sins.
On Sunday evening, Children have choir practice. Choir meets during the school year with performances at Christmas and in the spring.

Sunday evenings after church, the college kids especially are invited to stay awhile and fellowship.

Men's Ministries
| Men's ministry The men of our church do a LOT behind the scenes. They get together for Prayer Breakfasts, Wild Beast Feasts, Golf Tournaments, Men's retreats, Promise Keeper conferences, and other activities. They are invaluable in setting up and taking down for VBS, Fall Festival or Winter Fest, and the occasional Living Christmas Tree. The Deacons are assisted in the ministry to the sick and to the new believers. Ushers and greeters are on a 5-week rotating schedule. The Prayer Walkers patrol and pray the parking lots during church services. Currently there are two men's groups meeting for study using the Men's Fraternity Material. One meets at Frank's Restaurant South at 5:30 am Wednesday mornings. The other meets on campus in Building E at 6:30 Thursday evenings.
| Missions Support
| Short-Term Trips In the months after the terrible tornado in Oklahoma, about 10 men from our church felt concerned enough to get a trip together and go see how they could help. It was a life-changing experience to see the devastation that one tornado could cause.
In the wake of the terrorist attacks in New York City, our church collected needed items in a Pod and joined with other area churches to send them to New York. A cooking team went and served jambalaya.
After hurricanes in June 2005, a team of volunteers went to Pensacola to help First Baptist there. Following Katrina in August and Rita in September 2005, we ministered to the evacuees while they were sheltered in our Family Life Center. Lives were changed with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We were also able to provide facilities for a staff shelter to the Red Cross volunteers coming to the area for disaster relief. We hosted people from all over the country and from several foreign countries as well - again, people experienced the love of Christ as we opened our doors and our hearts to them. Short term teams have been sent to over 20 different countries.
See the newsletters or contact Chuck LOwman for current mission activities. You can also see those currently scheduled by checking out the Calendar.
Donations to Mission Work Our church participates in the Southern Baptist Conventions' Cooperative Program for giving to missions. Gifts may be made throughout the year, but special emphasis is traditionally at Easter for North American Missions, (Annie Armstrong), in fall for State Missions (Georgia Barnett) and at Christmas for International Missions (Lottie Moon).
Special Offerings A mission effort we are often called on to support through special offerings is the Indian Bible Colleges and orphanages. (Hopegivers, created by God and administered by Rev. M.A. Thomas and his son Samuel.)
| Music Ministries
| Adult Worship Choir Meets Wednesdays at 7pm in the choir suite. No audition - come praise the LORD with a joyful noise. Come if you are willing to sing even if you can't read music!
We seldom wear robes. Each choir member is assigned a choir folder and cubby to keep music in from week to week. We seldom sing in early worship, and generally dismiss from the choir loft before the sermon. Special musical presentations in winter (Christmas), spring(Easter), July(Patriotic), and fall(Thanksgiving). Special Music for Christmas Practices begin in September, and the entire musical is (usually) to be memorized. Come join us.
Youth Choir For grades 7-12. The Youth aid in evening worship with an occasional special music selection. In summer they go on a Choir Tour Mission Trip. Rehearsal is Sunday afternoons. Adult Choir Rehearsal every Wednesday at 7:00pm in the choir room. College through Adult are welcome.
Performs each Sunday at the 10:45 Worship Service, and "goes down" before the sermon, which allows those who have attended Early Worship to depart.
Also performs special music for Easter, Christmas, and other times, which may require extra rehearsals or even practice on your own with a tape or CD. Tape is free, CD may cost a little.
Children's & Preschool Choirs
By learning to sing at church, children will not only gain a better understanding of music but of listening to the teacher, praising God, enjoying being at church, and being more likely to have something in common with other kids his age at church as he continues into Youth Choir.
We have choir for preschool through 5th grade, meeting Sunday afternoons in the school year. These choirs do not meet in the summer. They must bring a snack ; choir leaders will send notes home. Performances will be in Sunday evening service.
Children meet at 4:30pm.
Our Minister of Music Adam Holcomb leads and schedules the vocalists.
Instrumental Ensemble Contact Wil Dees and Adam Holcomb if you play an instrument.
You can join the orchestral ensemble. You will perform on Sundays at both the morning services to complement the music worship. |
Prayer Ministries
| Wednesday evening Prayer meeting 6:15pm in the Family Life Center. Come join us for a little Bible study and a time of small-group prayer.
The Prayer Room is a place for the church's Prayer Warriors to come at their designated times to pray for those requests that have been turned in for the purpose. If I had not prayed, I would not have known the greatness of the glory of God.
