Worship

The worship ministry at Woodlawn Baptist Church seeks to glorify God by providing worship leadership to its members and by helping them grow as worshipers, both spiritually and musically. For some time now, priority in worship music has been placed on style and performance to the neglect of the truth that is found in God's Word and the collective voice of the congregation. That is not to say that forms are unimportant. They should be musically fitting and aid the congregation in singing the truths of who God is and what He has done as revealed in His Word, specifically His redemptive work in Christ, which enables our worship. Our worship, not limited to music, therefore, should be a proclamation of and a response to these truths as we gather around the Word in worship that is shaped by the gospel each week so that our lives may be changed and God be glorified.

The Worship Choir is a non-auditioned group and consists of adults 18 years old and older. They rehearse on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the choir suite and lead us in worship during our weekly Sunday worship gatherings as well as special worship events throughout the year.

    Expectations

  • Worship Band

The Worship Band is a select group of instrumentalists who lead us in worship during our weekly Sunday worship gatherings as well as special worship events throughout the year. They rehearse on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

    Expectations

  • Children's Choirs

We have two children's choirs that meet on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. Our preschool choir is for children ages 3 through Kindergarten, and they meet in the Room 4 of the Education Building. Our older Children's Choir is for children in 1st through 6th grades, and they meet in the Choir Suite. While both choirs do occasionally sing in the worship gathering, and even have an end of the year presentation, their primary purpose is to disciple and educate children to worship God through music.

  • Student & College Choir

The Student & College Choir is a non-auditioned group and consists of students in 7th grade through college. They rehearse on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary and regularly join with the Worship choir to lead us in worship during our weekly Sunday worship gatherings. They also have opportunities to minister to other local churches and take a ministry tour each summer.

    Expectations

  • Student Worship Team

The Student Worship Team is a select group of singers and instrumentalists who lead worship for Woodlawn's Wednesday night student ministry gathering (Converge) as well as other family ministry events. These students, all novices at leading worship, participate in a rigorous discipleship process to prepare them to lead worship in a healthy and sustaining way.

    Discipleship Strategy and Purpose

  • Ensembles

From time to time we have ensembles sing songs that lend themselves to a smaller group of people or songs that are more advanced. Examples of this would be duets, trios, men's quartets, and acappella ensembles. Singers for these ensembles are selected out of the Worship and Student Choirs.

  • Audio/Visual Support

This select group of volunteers assists in the leading of house and video audio, video recording, and visual media during the worship gatherings of the church and other events as needed.
